Make your ruler sing!

Material:

- solid surface (table, chair etc.)
- ruler

Instruction:

Place about one half of the ruler on the table.

Press the ruler with one hand on the table.

Bend the ruler with the other hand and release it. Do not bend the ruler to much in order to ot destroy it.

Explanation:

The sound which you can hear, when you release the ruler is created by the vibrating ruler. THe vibration of the ruler influences the air around and creates sound waves. The sound waves spread in the room and reach also your ear. Therefore the mechanical vibration of the ruler was translated in the vibration of the air, which equals a sound waves.
